NWIA REALTORS® To Lobby in Des Moines
More than 40 REALTORS® from around northwest Iowa will travel to Des Moines on Wednesday, February 1 as part of the Iowa Association of REALTORS® annual Legislative Bus-In Day.
At the top of the 2017 legislative priority list for area REALTORS® is to ensure passage of new Home Savings Account legislation in Iowa. This legislation would create a new state income tax exemption for qualified deposits to a first-time homebuyer savings account. Prospective first-time homebuyers could use this account to save money to help pay for closing costs or a downpayment on a home in Iowa.
Iowa REALTORS® have championed this bill the previous three legislative sessions. Members feel the time is now to pass this important legislation and make the dream of homeownership accessible to more Iowans.
“Participating in legislative and legal matters is an important part of the REALTOR® profession,” said Kelly Burge, Executive Officer for the Northwest Iowa Regional Board of REALTORS®. “REALTORS®are the defenders of homeownership, and our members look forward to making that dream more accessible to all with passage of this new legislation.”
The Northwest Iowa Regional Board of REALTORS® encompasses nearly 500 real estate professionals in a 13 county region across the northwest quadrant of Iowa.
