Voting is now open in the NWIA (Virtual) Ugly Sweater Party. Pop on over to the album our Facebook page and find some really comical photos of our very brave members, all decked out in their holiday finest. The photo with the most likes at 10 AM on Friday, December 18 will win a $100 Visa card. A $25 Staff’s Choice prize will also be awarded. And yes, the staff’s vote can be swayed with your witty comments on the photos.
Click on over and join the fun. Because seriously, it’s the week before Christmas and we know you’re not working ALL the time.
We enjoyed a wonderful day for REALTOR Ring Day across Siouxland on Friday, December 4. Mild temperatures, sunny skies and an overall unusually gorgeous Friday in Iowa in December seemed to put both volunteers and shoppers alike in great holiday spirits.
Covering four locations for the Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign throughout the day, 56 members of the Northwest Iowa Regional Board of REALTORS volunteered, ringing bells for a total of 28 hours during the day-long event.
Thanks to our host locations for their hospitality on Friday:
Fareway on Indian Hills
Hy-Vee on Gordon
Hy-Vee on Hamilton
Hy-Vee in South Sioux City, NE
The total amount raised during the day from the four locations was $1458.97. Not bad for a day’s work!
Thanks to all of our REALTOR members who generously give of their time to make this an important day of fundraising for our local Salvation Army organization.

Just a reminder to all that the board office will be closed December 24 and 25 in observance of the Christmas holidays. The office will be open as normal December 28, 29 and 30.
The office will also be closed December 31 and January 1 in observance of New Year’s.
Office hours will return to normal on Monday, January 4. After the holiday craziness, we hope we can say the same for the staff.
Make plans to join us Thursday, December 17 at Noon at (the always delicious) Bev’s on the River for our next board luncheon. This is another great opportunity to socialize, build your professional network and enjoy the sounds of the holiday season. All attendees are asked to bring one can of food to benefit the local food pantry.
This month’s guests will be students from the West High School Chamber Choir, who will regale us with a selection of Christmas music favorites.
The Sioux City West Chamber Choir is one of five choirs at Sioux City West High School. The 20-30 member select chorus is chosen through an audition process of 10-12 grade students in the vocal program at the high school. Along with the other choirs in the music department at West High, the Chamber Choir performs several concerts each year, and at the annual Madrigal Dinners at the Shrine Temple.
The Chamber choir is directed by Head Vocal Director, Boe Hodnefield and Assistant Director, Christopher Hanson.
We strive to conclude events by 1 PM as we know members are busy and need to get on to other things. Please consider joining us this month for some food and fun holiday spirit.
With ugly holiday sweaters being all the rage this year, we want to see just how ugly the NWIA board can be.
Bedazzled? Sparkled? Tinsel emblazoned? Show us what you’ve got!
Take a selfie of you in your best ugly holiday sweater and email it to us. Yes, we’re serious. And, don’t even try pulling our leg. You know you have one in your closet and we want to see it.
Don’t take selfies? Have your spouse, camera-equipped teenager, or stranger on the street take a picture of you in said ugly sweater. We don’t care who does it, just take one. You’re a REALTOR for heaven’s sake, so don’t even try to tell us you don’t have a camera. We totally know better.
The more outlandish the photo, the better. Points are given for creativity, so think outside the box, people. Just keep it G-rated, please. This is a family show.
All submitted photos will be uploaded to Facebook on Monday, December 14. The photo with the most “likes” at 10 AM on Friday, December 18 wins a $100 Visa gift card. Your beautiful, lovely, and (did we mention…) highly talented NWIA staff will also select a Staff’s Choice winner to receive a $25 gift Visa card.
Ummm, yeah. We said $100. For a simple picture of you in an ugly holiday sweater. That’s some serious bribery right there.
Individual or group photos are accepted. However, only one gift card will be awarded if a group photo is selected as the winner, so you’ll have to find a way to share. (Drinks after work, anyone….???)
No ugly holiday sweater? Phone a friend and borrow one. No excuses, people. Show us your ugliness!
Email photos to Communications Guru Kerri McKim at opens in a new window[email protected] before Monday, December 14 and use the subject line “My Ugly Sweater”.
Oh and PS…..thanks to our friends at the Iowa Association of REALTORS for use of their photos from the YPN Ugly Sweater Party at this year’s Winter Meetings in Clive.

Our next Board Luncheon events will take place Thursday, November 19 at Bev’s on the River from Noon to 1:00 PM. Be there to network, eat great food and learn something!
This month’s speaker will be Chris Liberto, Sioux City’s Blue Zones Project Consultant.
- Seeking 4 REALTOR members willing to actually sleep out. Yes, like outside. In a tent or box. In November. And we’re not kidding. Heather’s experienced and will show you the ropes. It’s onenight, people. You’re not going to die. You might even have fun so grab your rabbit slippers, long johns and mittens and get brave. If you’re nice, Heather might even lend you a blanket.
- Seeking 6 REALTOR members who will commit to coming to attend the evening’s events. These include a soup supper, bonfire and musical performances. Bring your spouse, friends and kids for a night of fun. Sleeping out is not required.

Too busy to help? TAKE THIS EASY OUT OPTION! Seeking 25 REALTOR members willing to donate money. Your donation in support of Heather and our team’s efforts is an easy way to help us meet a Core Standard and support a very worthy community event. Suggested donation $50+.
Yeah, $50. You aren’t sleeping outside in the cold, so show some appreciation for our peeps that are, so your tush can stay home and sleep inside, in your warm cozy bed.
Although no one really wants to talk about it, winter weather will be on the way sooner than most of us would like. We live in Iowa folks, so really, it’s not a surprise.
The NWIA board has adopted a policy which directs staff to follow the lead of the Sioux City Public Schools to determine closures related to inclement weather. If the Sioux City Public Schools are closed, opening late, or closing early due to inclement weather, the board office will follow their lead. Announcements will be posted on NWIA social media channels and the board website.
In the event of an office closure, staff will make every attempt to continue to answer e-mail and voicemail messages in a timely manner. We appreciate your support to allow our staff to stay safe in inclement weather.
